Wellness for the woman you are becoming
It started with a conversation I couldn’t stop thinking about
I was on a trip with two gynaecologists when one of them said something that caught me by surprise. She told me she believed women should start preparing for menopause as early as 28.
Twenty-eight. I’d always heard menopause talked about as something women would deal with much later. What stayed with me was her belief that we could start the conversation years before we expected to need it.
It made me think about my mother and my mother-in-law. I’d watched them, and other women around me, experience symptoms they found strange and difficult to explain. They went to doctors, heard different explanations and were offered different treatments. Yet in the conversations I knew about, menopause never came up.
I still think about what it might have meant for one of them to hear, “Let’s talk about where you are in this stage of life, too.” It would have given her another question to ask and another way to describe what she was experiencing.
That trip left me thinking about two women. The one who wants to understand menopause years before it’s something she has to think about. And the one who’s already awake at night, searching for words to describe what’s changed.
I wanted to create a place where both could begin. That’s how She Rituals started.
I’m Priya Lalwani, the founder of She Rituals
I’ve been a cosmetic formulator since 2015. When I started, I followed recipes, made mistakes and went back to work out why something had gone wrong. I founded Learn Canyon in 2018 because I wanted to teach the part I’d had to figure out for myself. Once you understand why an ingredient is there, you can decide whether it belongs in the product you want to make.
Teaching showed me what happens when someone finally understands the why. They start asking better questions and feel more confident making their own decisions. I wanted to bring that same experience to She Rituals.
Building She Rituals also meant becoming a student again. I completed a diploma in menopause and earned an accredited certification as a Menopause Wellbeing Practitioner. And when it came to developing our programmes, I made a deliberate decision. I hired doctors to create the She Rituals programmes. I wanted medical expertise to shape the education from the beginning, including what we teach and how we explain it. My role as founder is to bring that education to women in a way that feels clear, approachable and relevant to everyday life.
Why we created these programmes
I wanted a woman to be able to start with the question she’d actually ask. Can I be in perimenopause if my periods are still regular? What should I write down before my next appointment? Why does the skincare I’ve used for years suddenly feel different on my skin?
Some women want to understand the whole transition. Others want to spend time on the one thing that’s affecting them today. That’s why I wanted room for both in She Rituals. We chose a 21-day format for our first programme so there’d be time to take in one idea, see how it relates to your life and come back with a better question.
Skin, hair and botanicals are where my years as a formulator come into the conversation. I wanted to make space for everyday questions about what still feels good on your skin, how you care for your hair and what’s worth knowing before you make an herb part of your routine. Those questions sit alongside conversations about sleep, daily care and how to talk about changes you’re still figuring out. I wanted the community to be part of it, too, because sometimes it helps just to hear another woman say, “I’ve been wondering about that too.”
What She Rituals means to me
A ritual is a small act of care you make time for because it means something to you. It could be giving yourself a few quiet minutes at the end of the day. It could be writing down the question you always forget when you get to the doctor’s office. Sometimes it’s simply stopping long enough to ask yourself what you need today.
When I think about the woman I’m writing for, I think about my mother and my mother-in-law. I think about how I’d want someone to speak to them. In words they could follow. With time to listen when the details were hard to explain. And with enough care that they’d feel comfortable asking the next question.
That’s what I want you to find at She Rituals. You can start with whatever question brought you here.
I’m glad you found us.
